South African left-arm spin bowler and Test team specialist, the first bowler to take a Test hat-trick for South Africa.
Background
Born in Durban, South Africa, Keshav Athmanand Maharaj is the son of a former first-class cricketer and came through KwaZulu-Natal age-group cricket.
Career
He made his Test debut against Australia in 2016 and became South Africa’s first-choice spin option. He took a hat-trick against West Indies in 2021, the first ever by a South African bowler.
Style of play
A traditional left-arm orthodox spinner relying on flight, dip, and accuracy rather than turn, Maharaj is most effective on dry surfaces where he can build pressure over long bowling spells.
