Born Ichiro Suzuki in Kasugai, Japan, he began his professional career with the Orix BlueWave in 1992 and won seven consecutive batting titles in Japan’s Pacific League.
Career
He moved to the Seattle Mariners in 2001 as the first Japanese position player in MLB, winning MVP and Rookie of the Year in his debut season. Across MLB and Japan he recorded more than 4000 professional hits.
