Imran Khan

Pakistani fast bowler and all-rounder who captained Pakistan to its first Cricket World Cup title in 1992.

Background

Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Imran Khan attended Aitchison College and later Oxford University, captaining the university cricket team before his Test debut for Pakistan in 1971.

Career

He led Pakistan through 48 of his 88 Test matches and lifted the 1992 World Cup at age 39 after coming back from a shoulder injury. After cricket he founded a cancer hospital and later became Pakistan’s prime minister.

Style of play

A genuinely fast right-arm seamer who could reverse-swing the old ball, Khan also batted at six or seven and developed into a calm middle-order presence, particularly effective in fourth-innings chases.
