An island off the northwest coast of Wales, the largest in Wales and the seventh-largest in the British Isles, with Bronze Age and Druidic heritage.
Geography
Anglesey is separated from mainland Wales by the narrow Menai Strait and connected by two bridges including the Menai Suspension Bridge, completed in 1826 by Thomas Telford. The island is gently undulating low farmland.
Druids
Anglesey, known as Ynys Mon in Welsh, was the last stronghold of the Druids in Britain. Roman general Suetonius Paulinus massacred the priesthood here in 60 CE before the Boudican revolt forced his recall.
Place Names
The village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch on Anglesey has the longest train station name in Europe at 58 letters, coined as a Victorian publicity stunt.
