Geography
Lombok lies just east of Bali across the Wallace Line and is dominated by Mount Rinjani, the second-tallest volcano in Indonesia at 3726 m. The summit caldera contains the crescent-shaped Segara Anak crater lake.
Sasak
The Sasak people, predominantly Muslim, make up about 85 percent of the population. Traditional bamboo and clay villages such as Sade preserve woven cloth and stick-fighting traditions.

The three Gili Islands off the northwest coast of Lombok are a popular dive and snorkeling destination, accessible by fast boat from Bali and free of motorized vehicles.
