Whidbey Island

A long island in Puget Sound, Washington, the largest island in the state and home to U.S. Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.

Geography

Whidbey Island stretches about 89 km north to south in Puget Sound. The Deception Pass Bridge, completed in 1935, connects the island to Fidalgo Island and the Washington mainland.

Ebey’s Landing

The Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve, established in 1978, was the first federal reserve of its kind. It preserves nineteenth-century farms, prairies, and bluffs on the west side of the island.

Wildlife

Resident orca pods, Steller sea lions, and seasonal gray whales pass close to shore. The island’s Greenbank Farm has the largest commercial loganberry farm in the country.
